Prof. emeritus dr. eng. Radu Mircea Damian, 1942 born in Bucharest, Romania, 1966 graduate of the Faculty of Building Services Engineering of the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest (UTCB), holds a MS degree in Fluid Mechanics from University of Iowa, Iowa City, USA (1972) and a Doctoral degree in Hydraulics and Fluid Mechanics from the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest, Romania (1980). Currently retired, he is still invited to teach Hydraulics as Associate professor and conduct Doctoral degree studies as Advisor at UTCB, Department of Hydraulics, Sanitary Engineering and Environmental Protection. He authored and co-authored 16 books and 85 research papers in engineering and quality assurance, was Director/Manager of 6 International and national major research and educational grants/projects. He was Vice Rector for student problems (1990-2000) and Dean of Faculty of Building Services Engineering (2000-2008). Prof. Damian was President of the Higher Education Funding Council of Romania (2001-2010), Secretary of State for Higher Education and European Integration at the Ministry of Education and Research of Romania (2001-2005), Board member, Vice-chair and Chair of the Steering Committee for Higher Education and Research of the Council of Europe (CDSR) (2003-2009). He was member and then President of the Engineering Commission of the National Council of Academic Evaluation and Accreditation (CNEAA) (1994-2000, 2005-2006), Council Board member and Director of Quality Department in ARACIS (2005-2013), Director for International relations, projects and cooperation of ARACIS (2013-2022), member of the Board of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education – ENQA (2009-2012). Prof. Damian also represented for many years the Ministry of education of Romania and then CDESR in the Bologna Follow-Up Group (BFUG). Prof. R.M. Damian is Doctor Honoris Causa of University “Transilvania” Brașov and of Technical University “Gh. Asachi” Iași. In 2000 he was distinguished with the National Order “Steaua României” – Officer, for exceptional merit in teaching and educational activity.
