
Mircea Miclea is a distinguished Romanian psychologist, professor, and public intellectual, widely recognized for his contributions to cognitive psychology, education reform, and mental health innovation.
He is a full professor at Babeș‑Bolyai University in Cluj‑Napoca, in the Department of Psychology, where he has taught since the mid‑1990s and leads the doctoral school in Applied Cognitive Sciences. He holds a PhD in psychology (1995) from the same university. He also has a master’s degree in business administration, and has completed other post‑graduate study abroad, including at the New Europe College in Bucharest.
In 2001, Miclea became Chancellor of University Babeș‑Bolyai, a position he held until 2004. Around the same time, he assumed the UNESCO Chair on Higher Education Management and Governance.
He served as Romania’s Minister of Education and Research from December 2004 to November 2005. After his ministry role, he headed the Presidential Commission for the Analysis and Elaboration of Policies in Education and Research.
Mircea Miclea is also founder and director of Cognitrom, a private research and development company that creates tools, platforms, and interventions at the intersection of psychology, educational technology, and e‑mental health. He has been involved in developing computerized platforms for psychological assessment, counseling, and intervention.
Among his research interests are applied cognitive sciences (including anxiety and cognition), educational policy, psychotherapy (especially cognitive‑behavioral approaches), and the design of digital/e‑health tools. He is accredited as a cognitive‑behavioral therapist both in Romania and by a U.S. association.
