Between 28-29 May 2026, ARACIS hosted the annual meeting of the members of the Quality Audit Network (QAN). QAN is an informal network of European agencies that conduct external quality assurance processes at institutional level.
The event brought together colleagues from quality assurance agencies from 14 countries, who, over the course of the two days, addressed the theme “Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Quality Assurance – The Endless Column,” proposed by ARACIS, given that 2026 was officially designated the Year of Constantin Brâncuși, marking the 150th anniversary of the Romanian sculptor’s birth (1876–2026).
During the meeting, representatives of the participating agencies presented the latest developments as well as the challenges encountered in the institutional external evaluations conducted over the past year.
In working groups, within an interactive and creative setting, participants explored the connections between artificial intelligence and external quality assurance, as well as the ways in which AI can be integrated into QA, drawing inspiration from the sculptures of Constantin Brâncuși.
The meeting provided a valuable context for exchanging best practices and strengthening collaboration among European quality assurance agencies. The discussions and activities highlighted both the opportunities and challenges generative artificial intelligence presents in external quality assurance, emphasizing the need for a responsible and innovative approach.
