Prof. Ann Katherine Isaacs – What is the Bologna Process and how does it work?
David Crosier – Implementation of the Bologna Process commitments
ARACIS organized, on 28 May 2025, the first webinar in a series of four webinars dedicated to the Bologna Process and the three key commitments, which are essential for the functioning of the European Higher Education Area.
The webinar provided an overview of the Bologna Process and addressed the following topics:
- How higher education systems in European countries functioned before the Bologna Process, as well as the stages leading up to its initiation and the creation of the European Higher Education Area.
- How the Bologna Process has evolved since its initiation, what tools it introduced, and how it functions today.
- The various roles and responsibilities of those involved in advancing the Bologna Process and implementing its key commitments: government policymakers, associated organizations, governance of higher education institutions, academic and administrative staff, students, and other stakeholders.
- Current priorities, such as the development of student-centered programs and the promotion of a robust quality culture.
- Main challenges for the development of the Bologna Process in the current global context.
In this regard, Prof. Ann Katherine Isaacs, former vice-chair of the Bologna Follow-up Group (BFUG), gave a presentation entitled “What is the Bologna Process and how does it work?” and Mr. David Crosier, higher education policy analyst at Eurydice, delivered a presentation entitled “Implementation of the Bologna Process commitments”. The webinar was moderated by Prof. Cristina Ghițulică, General Director of ARACIS, who emphasized the importance of these initiatives in strengthening the quality of Romanian higher education.
The event was attended by representatives of higher education institutions, national and international expert evaluators, as well as representatives of partner institutions with responsibilities in the field, both from Romania and abroad.
The webinar on 28 May is part of a series of events organized to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS).
