Gianina Chirazi_Recognition in the Romanian System of Higher Education
On June 17, 2025, ARACIS organized the third webinar in the series of four webinars dedicated to the Bologna Process and the three key commitments, which are essential for the functioning of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
The webinar addressed the topic “Recognition of Qualifications in the European Higher Education Area” and explored the following aspects:
- The importance of qualification recognition in the context of international mobility.
- The role of the ENIC-NARIC networks and the European legal framework.
- Automatic recognition of diplomas and simplifying procedures through digitalization.
- The link between recognition, quality assurance, and transparency in education.
- Current trends: micro-credentials, transnational education, and fraud prevention.
The speakers of the webinar were Ms. Chiara Finocchietti, President of the ENIC Network, and Ms. Gianina Chirazi, Director of the Romanian National Centre for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas (CNRED).
The webinar was moderated by Ms. Oana Salomia, Attaché for Education and Culture with the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary at the Permanent Representation of Romania to the European Union in Brussels.
In her presentation, Ms. Chiara Finocchietti highlighted the importance of qualification recognition in the context of international mobility in higher education. Her talk included a brief overview of the main European milestones in the field, such as the Magna Carta Universitatum, the Lisbon Recognition Convention, and the Bologna Process. Ms. Finocchietti also addressed current and future trends such as automatic recognition, digitalization, recognition of refugees’ qualifications, micro-credentials, and the impact of artificial intelligence on education and recognition processes.
Ms. Gianina Chirazi presented recent developments and perspectives in the national qualification recognition system, including aspects related to the digitalization of recognition procedures and the use of online platforms. Ms. Chirazi also discussed current challenges such as fraud prevention, the recognition of qualifications obtained in the context of transnational education, micro-credentials, and initiatives for harmonization with European quality assurance standards.
The June 17 webinar is part of a series of events organized to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS).
